FAQ: What are the levels of a language?

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is the international standard that defines linguistic competence. It is used around the world to define the linguistic skills of students on a scale of language levels from A1, a basic level, to C2, for those who master the language exceptionally.

LEVEL A1 = 48 HOURS

3 Sublevels (Elementary)

With this course you will be able to begin to use frequently used everyday expressions as well as simple phrases intended to satisfy immediate needs. You will be able to introduce yourself and others, ask for and give basic personal information about your home, your belongings and the people you know.

LEVEL A2 = 64 HOURS

4 Sublevels (Basic)

At this level you will be able to understand frequently used phrases and expressions related to areas of experience that are especially relevant to you (basic information about yourself and your family, shopping, places of interest, occupations, etc.). You will learn to communicate when carrying out simple, everyday tasks. You will be able to describe in simple terms aspects of your past and environment as well as issues related to your immediate needs.

LEVEL B1 = 80 HOURS

5 Sublevels (Basic Intermediate)

In this course you will be able to understand the main points of clear texts about known contexts, whether in work, study or leisure situations. You will learn to handle most of the situations that may arise during a trip to areas where the French language is used. You will be able to produce simple and coherent texts on topics that are familiar to you or that interest you. You will be able to describe experiences, events, wishes and aspirations, as well as briefly justify your opinions or explain your plans.

LEVEL B2 = 96 HOURS

6 Sublevels (Independent)

At this level you will be able to understand the main ideas of complex texts that deal with both concrete and abstract topics, even if they are of a technical nature as long as they are within your field of specialization. You will be able to interact with native speakers with a sufficient degree of fluency and naturalness. You will be able to produce clear and detailed texts on various topics as well as defend a point of view on general topics, indicating the pros and cons of the different options.

LEVEL B1 + PREPARATION WORKSHOP = B2

Note: In our study plan, the most common thing is that our students, upon completing level B1, can take the exam for B2 since our approach is purely communicative. That is, normally you do not have to make the investment until level B2, upon finishing B1 you can purchase the 16-hour preparation workshop for the official exams and thus achieve the objective.
